Ambitious and Development-Oriented Department Head for the Disability Services Division

Help build a strong foundation for future disability services in the Municipality of Kujalleq

Would you like to lead a department where your expertise and leadership skills can make a tangible difference for people with disabilities? And are you motivated by the opportunity to help build an organization where quality, legal certainty, and well-being are central? If so, you might be our new program director.

The disability services sector in the Municipality of Kujalleq is in the midst of a unique process of change. A new department for Children and People with Disabilities has been established, and we are in the process of creating a stronger, more sustainable, and more professional foundation for the sector. As a department head, you will play a key role in shaping the direction—both in day-to-day operations and in developing solutions for the future.

A field in development—with room for ideas and leadership

As a department head, you will be responsible for regulatory affairs, the support corps, housing units, residential facilities, sheltered workshops, and the therapy center throughout the municipality. You will be a key member of the management team and will receive close guidance from both internal managers and temporary partners from the National Board of Social Services.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Set the direction for a new development area and establish clear guidelines, structures, and workflows
  • Improve the quality of case management and interventions so that citizens receive timely and comprehensive support
  • Develop employees and leaders so that professional competence, well-being, and collaboration become key elements
  • Build bridges across government agencies and external stakeholders and create a strong, unified disability sector
  • Contribute to strategic development and financial management so that the area remains resilient in the future

Your main responsibilities are:

Ensuring Safe and Professional Operations

You will be the one who keeps operations running smoothly and ensures that residents receive services that are both professionally sound and grounded in the law. You’ll provide direction, stability, and quality in day-to-day operations—and make decisions that ensure consistency across the municipality.

Fostering development and creating new solutions

You drive development forward by shaping new frameworks, workflows, and practices. You lead projects that advance the field and ensure that documentation is maintained and case management processes are optimized.

Leading People and Strengthening Collaboration

You will be a hands-on leader who develops employees and builds strong collaborative relationships—both internally and externally. Working closely with the administrative director and the rest of the management team[VS2], you’ll maintain an overview, coordinate resources, and help the organization set priorities amid the many demands of daily operations.

About you:

  • We are looking for a highly skilled and ambitious leader who can see opportunities in a field that is still developing. You thrive on responsibility, change, and collaboration—and you want to help create something that will last for many years to come.
  • We imagine that you:
  • Has a relevant professional degree, such as a degree in social work or similar
  • Has experience in the field of disability, with a government agency, or with a program
  • Has solid management experience—preferably in managing other managers
  • Can provide direction, stability, and structure in an organization that is evolving
  • Is good at collaborating and building relationships across teams
  • Has strategic insight and is able to work with financial matters and prioritization
  • Can make the necessary decisions based on sound professional judgment—even when they are difficult
  • Is bilingual (Greenlandic/Danish), but this is not a requirement.

We offer

You will be taking on a role where your work truly makes a difference. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to shape a field that is still taking shape, where your ideas and leadership can set the direction for future disability services. You’ll be part of a new and dedicated management team that works closely together to create a strong and sustainable administration. And most importantly: you’ll have a job of great social significance, where people and their living conditions are at the very center of everything we do.

Salary and terms of employment are determined in accordance with the agreement or collective bargaining agreement in effect at the time of hire between the Government of Greenland and the relevant bargaining organization.
