The Municipality of Kujalleq is seeking a Director of Schools and MISI who will help set the direction for the development of the municipality’s schools and MISI. The position is available for hire on September 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.

About the Position

Inerisaanermut Ingerlatsivik / The Department of Day Care, Education, Labor Market, and Culture is responsible for the municipality’s day care centers, schools, MISI, culture and recreation, Majoriaq, and prevention. The department has three division directors:

  • Head of Early Childhood Education
  •  Head of the Schools and MISI Division
  •  Director of Culture, Recreation, and Museums

The Head of Schools and MISI is a member of the management team at Inerisaanermut Ingerlatsivik, with the Chief Administrative Officer as his or her immediate supervisor. The management team consists of the Chief Administrative Officer and the three department heads, who jointly set the direction for the administration’s operations, development, and cross-functional collaboration.

The Department Head supervises the lead psychologist at MISI, three lead school principals, and two school consultants. The position is based in Qaqortoq and involves travel to the municipality’s towns and villages. The schools in Nanortalik, Qaqortoq, and Narsaq each have their own areas of responsibility covering the municipality’s settlements, which are: Aappilattoq, Narsarmijit, Tasiusaq, Ammassivik, Alluitsup Paa, Saarloq, Eqalugaarsuit, Igaliku, Qassiarsuk, Narsarsuaq, and Qassimiut.

Your main responsibilities

As a department head, you will play a key role in ensuring quality, development, and consistency in the school and MISI sectors. Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing operations and development, as well as ensuring support for the well-being, learning, and development of children and youth in the municipality. This will be done in close collaboration with school consultants, senior school principals, MISI, and the rest of the management team. The municipality’s itinerant teacher is also part of the administration.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  •  ensure that operations and the performance of tasks in the school and MISI sectors are carried out in accordance with applicable laws, policy decisions, and the municipality’s goals
  •  contribute to a solid professional foundation for political and administrative decisions
  •  draft policy briefs in collaboration with the management of Inerisaanermut Ingerlatsivik
  •  be responsible for budget planning, budget monitoring, and financial management for schools and MISI
  •  manage and coordinate tasks for MISI, senior school principals, and school consultants
  •  ensure quality, oversight, and a common professional direction in the school system and at MISI
  •  initiate, support, and embed strategic development initiatives in close collaboration with the administration’s other functional areas
  •  strengthen transitions and continuity in the lives of children and young people, including the transition from elementary school to further education
  •  collaborate with other relevant stakeholders on comprehensive initiatives for children and youth

Your Profile

We are looking for a manager who:

  •  have a relevant educational background as a teacher or equivalent—preferably supplemented by further education in school administration, pedagogy, management, or leadership
  •  has proven leadership experience, preferably from a politically governed organization
  •  has a solid understanding of the school sector and, preferably, the MISI sector
  •  can balance academic quality, resource management, well-being, and policy objectives
  •  works strategically, in a structured manner, and with a good overview—even when tasks are complex
  •  has strong written and oral communication skills
  •  can foster trusting working relationships both within the organization and with external partners

Child Protection and Criminal Record Check

This position is subject to the law requiring a child protection clearance. Employment cannot begin until the municipality has received a satisfactory child protection clearance. The municipality may also request a criminal record check in connection with the hiring process.

Salary and Employment Terms

Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement/collective bargaining agreement in effect at the time of hire between the Government of Greenland and the relevant bargaining organization. Employment is subject to a 3-month probationary period.

Housing

For employees relocating from outside the area, housing may be provided, for which a security deposit and rent are paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time; in addition, travel expenses for moving to the new location and moving expenses for household goods are covered—and, after at least 3 years of employment – travel expenses upon termination of employment and moving expenses in accordance with applicable rules.
