Jørgen Wæver-Johansen is now responding to the debate that has arisen following an article in Sermitsiaq about the purchase of a home in Nuuk.
According to Sermitsiaq, 5.39 million kroner was transferred to the seller by the U.S. investor group Greenland Development Partners. The property was subsequently transferred to Inuit Properties Greenland ApS, which is 100 percent owned by Jørgen Wæver-Johansen.
In a Facebook post, Wæver-Johansen denies that there is anything suspicious about the investment. He emphasizes that it is common to finance investments through loans and business partners, and points to the great need for rental housing in Nuuk.
He also emphasizes that investments must, of course, be made in accordance with applicable law.
Supports cooperation with foreign investors
Wæver-Johansen argues that Greenland needs to collaborate with both Greenlandic and foreign stakeholders if the business sector is to develop and more jobs are to be created.
At the same time, he criticizes the harsh tone of the debate and believes that personal attacks and casting suspicion on others do not contribute to Greenland’s economic development.
A large part of the post also concerns his wife. Wæver-Johansen reacts strongly to what he perceives as casting suspicion on her, and urges critics to direct their questions and criticism toward him instead.He concludes by emphasizing that his wife is independent, makes her own decisions, and should not be drawn into the criticism of his business activities.
