We are seeking a Director of Administration for the INUIT region for a key management position reporting to the Municipal Director. The position is based in Aasiaat and covers the municipality’s 4 towns and 8 villages. You will have overall responsibility for operations, development, regulatory affairs, finance, and policy support in the Inuit region and will lead a new administration characterized by clear leadership and high professional standards. Here, you will have both strategic leadership responsibilities and a daily life close to nature, community, and responsibility.

Central management role Reporting to the municipal director and working closely with political leaders.Management Responsibilities: Head of Administration for a management team comprising one department head in the social services sector and one department head for Majoriaq.
Areas of responsibility: Elderly and people with disabilities, children and youth, external units, family centers, as well as Majoriaq, the labor market, and MISI.Location: Local applicants may be based in one of the municipality’s four towns and will be responsible for the entire municipality.

You will be responsible for

·Overall management of the Inuit Administration, with responsibility for operations, development, regulatory affairs, finance, and policy support

·Management of the central leadership team, consisting of two department heads

·Development and coordination of Inuit services across the areas of seniors and people with disabilities, children and youth, external units, family centers, MISI, Majoriaq, and the labor market

·Ensuring that public authority is exercised in a lawful and timely manner, and ensuring the quality of case processing and administrative practices

·Overall responsibility for the administration’s finances, financial management, and reporting

·Providing policy support through well-researched briefings, presentations, and follow-up

We imagine that you

·has solid management experience and a good understanding of government procedures and relevant legislation pertaining to Inuit affairs

·has experience working in a government-run organization, preferably at the local level

·can navigate effectively between professional development, operations, regulatory affairs, finance, and policy support

·Can lead through other leaders and build a following within an organization that is still being established

·works in a structured manner and has an eye for both the big picture and local realities across cities and towns

·It is an advantage if you can communicate in Greenlandic and Danish, and preferably also in English

Practical Information·The position reports to the municipal director and is part of the municipality’s senior management team.·The place of work is Aasiaat, but the responsibilities cover the entire municipality.·Travel within the municipality may be required as needed.·Salary placement is at Department Head Level 1, in accordance with the management agreement between the Self-Government and the municipalities.

Criminal record:

This position is subject to the law requiring a criminal background check. Under this law, employment cannot begin until the municipality has received a criminal background check. We must therefore point out that the start date cannot be agreed upon until the municipality has received the criminal background check from the police.

Housing:

Staff housing may be provided for this position; a security deposit, rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time regarding rent payments for properties owned by the Government of Greenland and the municipality, etc., in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon employment, employees entitled to vacant housing will be offered temporary vacant housing, for which A-tax on non-monetary benefits will be paid in accordance with applicable law. 

Staff housing must be vacated upon termination of employment.
