RE-POSTING The position of Head School Administrator is being advertised for appointment effective July 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.

The staff at Tasersuup Atuarfia, the students, and, not least, the parents are looking for a focused and visionary leader who, together with the rest of the administration and the school’s other staff, can elevate the school and drive progress in both educational quality and academic performance.

Information about Tasersuup Atuarfia 

  • There are about 430 students.
  • The staffing level is 55 teachers.
  • The school is divided into four departments.
  • The teachers work well together and are welcoming to new colleagues.
  • There is also a large common hall where teachers and students can gather.
  • There is a music room.
  • There is an educational workshop.
  • There is a teacher portal and a parent portal.
  • The school is implementing a plan to improve student performance.
  • Teachers work in stages.
  • A manager is also responsible for three villages and six home-schooling families in sheep-farming communities.

We are looking for a leader:

  • Has the ability to lead, advise, and guide teachers and oversee their work
  • Has a strong understanding of finance and can manage large budgets
  • Follows up on goals and can collaborate with colleagues at all levels while respecting the various groups within the organization.

Qualifications for a senior school principal:

  • That you have a teaching degree and have completed a school leadership program
  • That you are good at working with others—including teachers, other staff members, your supervisors, and, not least, parents
  • That you understand your role as a leader and the responsibilities that come with it.
  • That you are a strong communicator, both in writing and in person
  • That you are able to handle pressure in your daily work
  • That you are loyal to your employers and employees
  • That you have a good command of Greenlandic and Danish, both written and spoken 

Certificate of No Criminal Record for Working with Children:

This position is subject to the law requiring a background check for work with children. Under the law, employment cannot begin until the municipality has obtained a background check.
The background check will be taken into account in the municipality’s decision regarding who to hire for the position.

The principal’s immediate supervisor is the head of the Schools Division at DUAK Municipality of Kujalleq, who is based at the municipal administration office in Qaqortoq.

EMPLOYMENT ON FAVORABLE TERMS

Appointments are made in accordance with the agreement of May 25, 2021, between Naalakkersuisut and IMAK. For applicants who are already civil servants in Greenland, this form of employment may continue.

To attract qualified applicants, employment is offered under a special fixed-term employment agreement. In practice, this means that after every 12 months of employment, the employee and their family are entitled to a vacation trip in accordance with the applicable rules. In addition, a severance payment of DKK 18,000 per year of employment (at 1991 levels) is provided, which is deposited into a closed account. The severance payment is paid out upon termination of employment.

Housing:
Housing will be provided, and rent will be paid in accordance with applicable regulations. However, there may be a waiting period for the housing. In the event of a waiting period, the municipality will provide temporary housing, for which rent will be paid in accordance with applicable regulations.
