Atuarfik Inussuk was officially inaugurated on Thursday at a ceremony attended by invited guests, including partners and others who helped bring the new school to fruition.
The day began with a welcome from the school principal and a musical performance by AKO. This was followed by speeches from the parties involved in the construction project—including Mayor Avaaraq Olsen.
“Thank you to everyone who planned, designed, and built the school. Thank you to the staff, administration, school board, and partners who have contributed along the way. A special thank you to the teachers and other staff who have contributed, collaborated, and worked hard to merge two schools into one. And thank you to the students, who are now helping to fill the school with life,” said Avaaraq Olsen.
There were also musical performances before the school’s new logo was unveiled. Afterward, the guests were given a tour of the school.
Open House on Saturday
The inauguration will continue on Saturday, when Atuarfik Inussuk will open its doors to the public. Everyone will have the opportunity to come inside and see the new school.
