Children in Nuuk’s preschools have embarked on a special journey into the world of stories. To mark the 50th anniversary of Atuakkiortut Kattuffiat, 16 kindergartens participated in a children’s book workshop with author and educator Naussunguaq Lyberth. The project was created in collaboration between Atuakkiortut Kattuffiat and Maria Panínguak` Kjærulff from Allunnguaq – Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq.
The children have shared their own stories and created drawings that reflect their imaginations, experiences, and dreams. The strong support from the preschools, the Department of Children and Schools, and the parents has made it possible to hold workshops at all of Nuuk’s preschools.
The next step is to explore the possibilities of publishing a book featuring the children’s stories and drawings. Atuakkiortut Kattuffiat will seek funding for the project. The project demonstrates how much can be achieved when municipalities, institutions, cultural organizations, and families work together to strengthen children’s imagination, language skills, and creativity.
The Sermersooq Municipal Authority would like to thank Naussunguaq Lyberth, Atuakkiortut Kattuffiat, the staff at the preschools, as well as the children and their parents. Perhaps we have already met some of Greenland’s future authors.
Allunnguaq is a coordinating initiative in the Municipality of Sermersooq that gathers and disseminates arts and cultural programs from local institutions to schools and daycare centers. The goal is to provide schoolchildren and preschoolers with access to creative and cultural educational programs—while also strengthening creative and cultural subjects in schools.
