The Siumut group has noted with concern that the information that has been made public regarding mining projects in Qullissat is still not sufficiently known to the general public. The municipal council of Qeqertalik Municipality has not yet been thoroughly and officially briefed on developments in this matter.
Qullissat holds special historical, cultural, and social significance for the Municipality of Qeqertalik. Therefore, it is crucial that the municipal council be informed in a timely and comprehensive manner about plans, studies, and other activities related to mineral extraction in the area.
The Siumut caucus believes that both the municipality and its residents need to receive accurate and timely information. This is essential for ensuring that residents are kept informed in a transparent manner and that the municipality can engage responsibly in dialogue with the other parties involved.
Therefore, the Siumut caucus calls on Naalakkersuisut to ensure that the municipal council of Qeqertalik is thoroughly informed about projects, permits, exploration activities, and plans related to mineral resource activities in Qullissat. At the same time, Naalakkersuisut is urged to organize public meetings where local residents, interest groups, the municipality, and other relevant stakeholders can engage in an open dialogue.
The Siumut caucus believes that development should take place in an open and transparent manner, with local residents being consulted. Therefore, good communication, public involvement, and close cooperation are essential to the project’s success.
In conclusion, the Siumut group expresses its hope that Naalakkersuisut and the other parties involved will work closely with the Municipality of Qeqertalik so that both the municipal council and the residents are adequately informed. At the same time, it is our hope that any mineral resource development in Qullissat will benefit the municipality through increased business development, new jobs, and economic growth—while taking into account the environment, cultural heritage, and the interests of local residents.
