ALLATTARL! is a cultural project that gives young people a voice through rap and poetry. In close collaboration between Det Starter Med Musikken (DSMM) and the Nordic Institute in Greenland (NAPA), rap camps are being held for young people in Nuuk, Paamiut, and Nanortalik.
The project brings together young people from diverse backgrounds in a creative and inclusive learning program that focuses on well-being, self-esteem, and empowerment through music, writing, and community.
The initiative is based on a relationship-based approach, in which music is used as a tool to build trust, foster a sense of community, and promote personal development.
An approach that gives young people a voice
“We work with young people who don’t necessarily feel they fit in elsewhere. At our camps, we meet them on their level and create a space where they can speak up, find their voice, and realize that they have something to say—and someone who is listening.”
“It’s about creating a community where music serves as a unifying force—a place where young people are welcomed and accepted for who they are, and where they feel confident that they can be themselves and be accepted,” says Manuela Reith Rasmussen, founder and chair of Det Starter Med Musikken and project manager at ALLATTARL!.
ALLATTARL! will take place in Nuuk, Paamiut, and Nanortalik from May 25 to June 15, 2026, and will conclude with concerts in all three cities.
Artists and Educators
The project is led by Manuela Reith Rasmussen and Bigg Kaka and is being carried out in collaboration with a strong team of Greenlandic and Danish artists and educators.
The lineup includes prominent Greenlandic artists such as $MALIKK, Andachan, Parnaq, Angukasik, FiNNi, and Minik Hansen, all of whom are active on both the Greenlandic and Danish music scenes.
Also participating from Denmark is Iris Poparic, a rap coach with many years of experience working with lyrics, dance, and performance.
In addition, Lucas is participating as an assistant. He has led several rap camps and masterclasses through *Det Starter Med Musikken* himself and is a prime example of the growth and development the project fosters in young participants.
“NAPA’s writing competition, ALLATTA!, has been running for several years now and has focused on short stories. But many young people write in other formats—for example, they write to music. That’s why we’re excited about this collaboration; it should be meaningful to young people,” says Susanne Andreasen, director of NAPA.
Local roots and collaboration
The project is rooted in close collaboration with local stakeholders in Greenland and is also supported by strong local backing from both partners and sponsors.
After the rap camps are completed, lyrics from all participants will be compiled into a collaborative book project.
The publication is available in Greenlandic, Danish, and English and serves as a comprehensive artistic expression and a lasting record of the projects that have been carried out.
This publication brings together the voices of young people across languages, cities, and backgrounds, serving as a collective statement of what has been created through ALLATTARL!.
