Head of the Department of Social Services, Family, Senior Citizens, and People with Disabilities for the INUIT region in the Municipality of Qeqertalik

We are seeking a Department Head for Social Services, Family, Senior Citizens, and People with Disabilities in the INUIT region, reporting to the INUIT Administrative Director. The position is based in Aasiaat and covers the municipality’s 4 towns and 8 villages. The Head of Department has overall responsibility for the professional and financial management of the area, as well as for ensuring that political decisions are translated into concrete results for citizens and local communities, in close collaboration with the Head of Administration.

The Department Head serves as a liaison between political leadership, the executive board, and the administrative organization. You will have overall responsibility for operations, development, regulatory affairs, finance, and policy support in the Inuit area and, in close collaboration with the Chief Administrative Officer, will lead the reorganization of the area with clear leadership and high professional standards. The Head of Department will primarily be responsible for social services, family services, elder care, disability services, and institutions within INUIT.

Central leadership role: Reports to the Director of Inuit Affairs and works closely with political leadership.Management Responsibilities: Head of a management team comprising department heads and managers in each city within the social services and elder care sectors.
Area of Responsibility: The department head will be primarily responsible for the elderly and people with disabilities, children and youth, external units, and family centers.Geography: Responsibility across the municipality’s four towns and eight villages.

Professional Qualifications

  • Social worker with relevant higher education
  • Management Experience
  • Experience in public administration is an asset

Criminal Record:

This position is subject to the law requiring a criminal background check. Under this law, employment cannot begin until the municipality has received a criminal background check. We must therefore point out that the start date cannot be agreed upon until the municipality has received the criminal record check from the police.

Housing:

Staff housing may be provided for this position, for which a security deposit, rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time regarding rent payments for properties owned by the Government of Greenland and municipalities, etc., in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon taking up the position, employees entitled to vacant housing will be offered temporary vacant housing, for which A-tax on free benefits is payable in accordance with applicable legislation. 

An employee residence must be vacated upon termination of employment.
