Director of Culture, Recreation, and Health
: A Key Management Position in the Municipality of Qeqertalik

Would you like to lead the development of culture, recreation, and health in the Municipality of Qeqertalik?

We are seeking a Department Head for Culture, Recreation, and Health, reporting to the Administrative Director of Timi Tarni. The position is based in Aasiaat and covers the municipality’s 4 towns and 8 villages. You will have overall professional and managerial responsibility for sports, culture, recreation, health, and prevention. Here, you’ll have both strategic leadership opportunities and a daily life close to nature, community, and responsibility.

Central leadership role: Reporting to the administrative director of Timi Tarni and working closely with political leadership.Management Responsibility: Professional responsibility for managers, employees, and relevant partners.
Field of Study: Sports, Culture, Recreation, Health, and Prevention.Geography: Responsibility across the municipality’s four towns and eight villages.

You’ll be responsible for that

·Overall management and development of the municipality’s sports, culture, recreation, health, and prevention programs

·Responsibility for developing sports, cultural, and recreational programs for children, youth, and adults

·Developing and coordinating preventive and health-promoting initiatives in collaboration with relevant stakeholders

·Professional and personnel management of managers and employees in the field

·Financial management, budget monitoring, and prioritization of the department’s resources

·Developing cooperation with associations, volunteers, institutions, healthcare providers, and other local stakeholders

·Providing policy support through well-researched briefings, presentations, and follow-up

We imagine that you

·either holds a relevant college degree or has extensive practical experience in the field, as well as solid management experience in the same field

·Has experience working in a politically governed organization, preferably at the municipal or public level

·can navigate effectively between professional development, operations, finance, and policy support

·can lead through other leaders and foster a sense of unity in an organization that is evolving

·works in a structured manner and has an eye for both the big picture and local realities across cities and towns

·It is an advantage if you can communicate in Greenlandic and Danish, and preferably also in English

Practical Information

·The position reports to the Administrative Director of Timi Tarni and is part of the administration’s management team.

·Salary classification as Department Head 3 under the management agreement between the Government of Greenland and the municipalities.

·Start date: September 1, 2026, or as agreed.

Criminal Record:

This position is subject to the law requiring a criminal background check. Employment cannot begin until the municipality has received the required criminal background check from the police.

Housing:

Staff housing may be provided for this position, for which a security deposit, rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time regarding rent payments for properties owned by the Government of Greenland and municipalities, etc., in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon starting the position, employees entitled to vacant housing will be offered temporary vacant housing in accordance with applicable regulations. An employee must vacate staff housing upon termination of employment.
