The Municipality of Qeqertalik is seeking a social worker for the Department of Children, Youth, and Families within the Social Services Administration in Qasigiannguit, to begin on July 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.

At the Social Services Department in Qasigiannguit, your immediate supervisor will be the department head, and you will work closely with caseworkers in the Children, Youth, and Families division.

You are responsible for keeping the department head regularly informed about ongoing and new cases, as well as providing updated information regarding children’s services within the Social Services Administration. This includes, in particular, social reports, action plans, and follow-up on out-of-home placements, including 24-hour care placements and day-to-day work with foster families.

In addition, you will be responsible for recording and tracking the status and statistical information regarding all pending placement cases, as well as other related tasks.

You will be responsible for case management, counseling, and guidance in the area of foster care, as well as for children placed outside the home, within the Children, Youth, and Families division.

Case processing in Qasigiannguit is conducted in accordance with current social welfare legislation in Greenland.

assist in handling complex and emotionally taxing cases and ensure that all reports received by the Social Services Department are processed and followed up with appropriate measures. You will participate in interdisciplinary meetings between the various departments and contribute to early intervention efforts for pregnant families and families in vulnerable situations.

Your main responsibilities will be:

Working with and following up on foster families.

Supervision of children placed in out-of-home care.

Day-to-day case management involving children and youth.

You will prepare recommendations for the Social Affairs Committee and ensure that it is kept informed on an ongoing basis. In addition, you are expected to collaborate with key local stakeholders in the social sector.

The GETORG journaling system is used in this role, and you will receive training on it.

We are seeking to fill this position with a candidate who possesses the following qualifications:

· Qualified social worker or holder of another relevant degree in social work. Experience in the social services field, particularly with children and youth, as well as knowledge of social welfare legislation, is a plus. Applicants who wish to pursue further education in this field may also be considered.

·Familiarity with the objectives and content of programs for children and youth.

·Experience with administrative case management and legislation related to children.

·Experience with coordination and basic case management in the field of children and youth, as well as collaboration with internal and external partners.

·Resilient, organized, and capable of making professional judgments.

·Experience with conflict resolution and handling complaints and criticism.

·Trustworthy, empathetic, and ethically conscious, as well as a role model for good conduct.

Criminal and Child Protection Records:

This position is subject to the law requiring criminal and child protection background checks. Under the law, employment cannot begin until the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child protection background checks. We must therefore note that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received a child protection certificate from the National Police and a criminal record check from the Police.

The Child Protection Certificate is obtained by the municipality with the individual’s consent, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are governed by the collective agreement in effect at the time of employment between Naalakkersuisut and the authorized bargaining organization. 

Housing:

Staff housing may be provided for this position; a security deposit, rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time regarding rent payments for properties owned by the Government of Greenland and the municipality, etc., in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon employment, employees entitled to vacant housing will be offered temporary vacant housing, for which A-tax on non-monetary benefits will be paid in accordance with applicable law. 

OR The start date depends on when staff housing becomes available. Travel expenses for the move and household goods relocation will be covered in accordance with applicable regulations.

Staff housing must be vacated upon termination of employment.
