The Family Center in Qaqortoq is seeking an early intervention educator to begin on August 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed. 

The Family Center consists of family counselors, early intervention staff, early intervention case workers, and youth counselors; they work with children and youth with special needs and who are at risk of delinquency.

Qualification Requirements and Competencies:

Responsibilities:

  • Daily point of contact for families referred to the Apisseq Early Intervention Treatment Home and other families referred to the Early Intervention program. 
  • Conduct daily observations of the families’ interactions and behavior, and be able to elaborate on what is observed. 
  • Provide social-educational and caring support based on established treatment plans.
  • Work closely with the Early Intervention Team, including the Early Intervention Coordinator, Early Intervention staff such as the case manager, midwives, and public health nurses, as well as therapists and counselors from the Family Center.
  • Support the child according to his or her needs, such as by attending meetings with the daycare center.
  • Support parents in establishing a good bond with their child. For example, by using toys
  • Supporting Parents in Child-Rearing Using an Appreciative Approach
  • Support parents, among other things, in managing their daily routines and tasks and handling their finances. 
  • Weekly planning and hosting of parent-child activities, as well as other relevant topics. 
  • Responsible for shared cleaning duties in the house according to the weekly schedule.
  • Preparing for and welcoming new parents.
  • Help develop early intervention programs, such as starting discussion groups and offering instruction on relevant topics.
  • Participation in various meetings, such as meetings of the Early Intervention Group, meetings with residents of Apisseq, treatment meetings, case review meetings, and staff meetings at the Family Center, as well as participation in relevant courses and/or staff training sessions.
  • Childcare in Apisseq when parents are attending treatment/therapy, support groups, or classes.
  • Be responsible for purchasing household items, such as cleaning supplies, tea, coffee, diapers, etc.
  • Development of a treatment plan in collaboration with the coordinator, an Early Intervention staff member, the case manager, and the family.
  • Jointly responsible for quality assurance of treatment efforts—and for the work with families referred to Early Intervention.
  • Jointly responsible for planning activities and treatments in collaboration with the Early Intervention Team and, if necessary, staff at the family center.
  • Attend progress meetings with the family.
  • Collaborate with the family center director, the Early Intervention coordinator, and the treatment director regarding day-to-day work. 
  • Responsible for compiling monthly statistics on clients and projects and submitting these figures to management annually.

Child Protection Certificate:

This position is subject to the law requiring the submission of a child protection clearance and a criminal background check. Under the law, employment may not begin until the municipality has received a child protection clearance. 

The child protection certificate is one of the key requirements in the municipality’s decision regarding who should be hired for the position. 

Salary and Terms of Employment:

Salary and employment conditions are governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement between the Government of Greenland and another relevant organization authorized to negotiate.

Staff housing is provided, for which rent and other fees are paid in accordance with applicable rules. 

Just as free travel to the new location and relocation of household goods are provided—and, after at least 3 years of employment, free travel upon termination of employment and relocation of household goods—in accordance with applicable rules.
