The Municipality of Kujalleq is seeking a high-profile and dedicated Culture and Recreation Director in Qaqortoq
Are you passionate about cultural life, and would you like to help create a strong framework for leisure activities, community life, and cultural events in the Municipality of Kujalleq? We are looking for a visible and proactive Culture and Recreation Manager to start on October 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.
The position is within the Department of Day Care and Schools and reports to the Director of Culture and Recreation. As the Culture and Recreation Director, you will have professional and operational responsibility for the development of the municipality’s cultural life, recreational facilities, and local initiatives in close dialogue with residents, organizations, and the creative community.
Your primary responsibilities:
- Cultural Development and Policy: Actively contribute to the development of the municipality’s overall cultural and recreational policy, as well as plans for recreational activities and adult education in Qaqortoq and the surrounding area.
- Operations and Personnel Management: Oversee the day-to-day management of the banquet hall, public library, youth club, and recreational facilities (including the music rehearsal room and crafts workshop). You will be responsible for the club leader, hourly staff, and facility staff.
- Events and Special Occasions in Extracurricular Education: Initiate, plan, and execute major cultural events and special occasions. Also, organize and conduct extracurricular education programs for children and adults.
- Contact with Organizations and Stakeholders: Serve as the primary point of contact between the cultural community and the municipality. Provide guidance and advice to artists, organizations, and initiative leaders on project development and grant opportunities, and administer and evaluate applications.
- Budget and Finance: Prepare and monitor operating and project budgets within one’s own area of responsibility, and approve and disburse funds in accordance with municipal regulations.
- Political and administrative consultation: Prepare technical input for the department head and consult with colleagues regarding adjustments to grant rules, etc.
What we expect from you:
- Education & Experience: You have a relevant college degree in cultural communication, event management, cultural sociology, or a related field—or solid, documented practical experience in leadership within the cultural and recreational sectors.
- Networking and Communication: You have strong skills in networking, facilitation, and communicating with everyone—from local residents to professional artists.
- Work Style: You are independent, flexible, well-organized, and thrive on juggling multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
- IT: You are familiar with IT at the user level (especially the Microsoft Office suite).
- Language: You must be bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish, both in writing and speech.
Salary and Terms of Employment:
- Employment Type: Full-time permanent position (40 hours/week).
- Collective Bargaining Agreement: Salary and employment are governed by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement in accordance with the applicable agreements between IMAK and Naalakkersuisut.
- Child Protection and Criminal Background Checks: This position is subject to requirements for child protection and criminal background checks. Employment cannot begin until the municipality has received satisfactory certificates from the police or the National Police.
- Smoke-Free Work Hours: The Municipality of Kujalleq has implemented smoke-free work hours at all municipal workplaces.
