A new community center will give the residents of Paamiut the opportunity to develop local products, engage in crafts, and receive assistance in starting their own businesses.
The Innovation Center has opened in the building at B-106 Mikisoq, which the municipality purchased following a decision by the municipal council.
The center will serve as a hub for local ideas, creative activities, and new business opportunities. Among other things, residents will have the opportunity to work with leather, sewing, and other forms of handicrafts.
Local producers should also be able to display and sell their goods on the premises. The hope is that, over time, some of these creative ideas will develop into products and independent businesses.
Inspiration from Illorput
The concept is inspired by Illorput. The municipality provides the space and facilities, while the users themselves contribute to the center’s activities and programming.
At the same time, the Innovation House should be a place where traditional craftsmanship can be preserved and further developed. Here, experienced artisans and citizens with new ideas should be able to meet and share knowledge across generations and interests.
Advice for Entrepreneurs
The municipality’s business development department plans to use the building for events for entrepreneurs and others interested in business.
The activities will focus, among other things, on tourism, product development, and entrepreneurship. Advice will also be offered on how to start and run a small business.
The municipality’s goal is for the Innovation Center to become an integral part of Paamiut’s business, cultural, and recreational life. According to the municipality, the extent of the role the center will play will depend, among other things, on how residents make use of it and contribute to its activities.
