Effective October 1, the Municipality of Kujalleq has appointed Vivi Kleist as the new director of Schools and MISI under Inerisaanermut Ingerlatsivik.
Vivi Kleist brings many years of experience in the field of education to this position. Throughout her career, she has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and school consultant, among other roles. She has also completed leadership training and has solid experience in special education, educational leadership, collaboration with boarding schools, and interdisciplinary collaboration with external stakeholders.
Vivi Kleist has also been active in the volunteer sector for several years, which has given her a broad understanding of the relationship between schools, children, and young people and the surrounding community.
She has in-depth knowledge of the Greenlandic elementary school system and also has considerable experience in the field of special education.
During the job interview, Vivi Kleist particularly emphasized her desire to contribute to the continued development of the Greenlandic public school system. She views school development from a broader perspective, in which teaching, the work of teachers, students’ learning and well-being, families, and the surrounding community are all interconnected. This also applies to the connection between the school system and the municipality’s daycare, after-school programs, and other initiatives for children and youth.
As department head, Vivi Kleist will be responsible for an area that involves work on both professional and pedagogical development, financial management, compliance with the law, and organizational development.
-Vivi has extensive experience in the field of education and a solid understanding of the areas for which she will now be responsible. She is familiar with school practices and also has a good understanding of the organizational challenges we face. Her strengths are highly relevant to the current situation in the school system. She is academically strong, organized, responsible, and focused on development. This provides a solid foundation for the work we will now be carrying out together,” says Administrative Director Annga Lynge.
This appointment comes at a time when the Municipality of Kujalleq seeks to strengthen a unified direction in the school system, with a focus on professional development, clear leadership, stability, compliance with the law, and responsible financial management.
