The municipality of Kujalleq should take immediate action, according to Pipaluk Jakobsen Larsen (IA), who has contacted the mayor without success.
Children, staff, and students at the school in Nanortalik have had to put up with an unhealthy indoor environment for far too long. That is the view of Pipaluk Jakobsen Larsen of Inuit Ataqatigiit, who, in an open letter, urges the Municipality of Kujalleq to find a solution now.
“Enough is enough. You can’t turn a deaf ear to us anymore,” she writes.
According to Pipaluk Jakobsen Larsen, users are insisting that attention be focused on schools, and elected officials cannot continue to ignore this.
She states that she has written to the mayor asking the municipality to contact Naalakkersuisut, but that this has not yet happened. Although education falls under the jurisdiction of the municipalities, she does not believe that the Municipality of Kujalleq can shoulder the financial burden alone.
“I believe a solution must be found immediately in the Municipality of Kujalleq,” she writes, noting that the municipality ran on a campaign slogan of good governance:
“When you’ve campaigned on the slogan of good governance, you have to turn that into results.”
She concludes the open letter with a direct appeal:
“We must work for the citizens and not turn a deaf ear. Find a solution to the unhealthy school in Nanortalik. Immediate action must be taken before the health of the students is harmed.”
