Nikolaj Ludvigsen and Anna T. Ludvigsen are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary. In connection with this, they were interviewed by Kommune Kujalleq.
Nikolaj Ludvigsen, who worked as a police officer for many years, served as mayor of what was then the Municipality of Nanortalik for eight years, and was also a member of the municipal council, married Anna T. Ludvigsen in Uummannaq 60 years ago.
– When we got married in 1966, I was 26 years old, and my future wife was 17. That’s why we got married with special permission from the county governor. Our marriage was born of love. We were newly in love, and my wife was pregnant with our eldest daughter, says Nikolaj Ludvigsen, as he looks back on that time.
After the wedding, the couple moved to Sisimiut because Nikolaj was going to work there as a police officer. Later, they lived in various places in Greenland, with breaks for educational stays in Denmark. In 1975, they moved to Nanortalik, where they have lived ever since.
– My wife and I have three daughters. I usually joke that King Frederik IX shouldn’t be the only one with three daughters, says Nikolaj Ludvigsen with a smile, and continues:
– We moved to Nanortalik in 1975. We fell in love with the town so much that we settled down here and still live here today.
What does it take for a married couple to stay together for 60 years?
“Love is the most important thing, but it’s also important that, as a married couple, you’re able to support each other through both good times and bad. We’ve been able to do that, and that’s why, after many years together, we’ve reached our 60th wedding anniversary,” says Nikolaj Ludvigs
