The number of passengers on scheduled flights out of Greenland rose by 16.6 percent in the first four months of the year compared with 2025—a trend that coincides with the opening of the new airport in Nuuk.
The number of passengers on scheduled flights from Greenland to other countries continues to rise.
From January to April 2026, 27,511 passengers traveled on scheduled flights out of Greenland. That is 3,923 more than during the same period last year, when the figure was 23,588.
This represents an increase of 16.6 percent, according to new figures from Statistics Greenland.
Since the new airport in Nuuk opened last October, the number of air passengers has been on the rise. This trend suggests that improved connections from the capital may have contributed to an increase in travel to and from Greenland.
Nuuk dominates international traffic
Nuuk Airport now accounts for the vast majority of international passengers. In April 2026, 25,649 passengers departed via Nuuk, while Kangerlussuaq handled 1,155 passengers.
Kulusuk had 502 passengers, while Nerlerit Inaat had 205. No international passengers were recorded from Ilulissat and Narsarsuaq in April.
April was the busiest month of the year so far
In April alone, 8,508 passengers traveled abroad on scheduled flights. That is 269 more than in April of last year.
The figures are based on data from Greenland Airports and are published monthly by Statistics Greenland. The next report is expected at the end of June.
