Uummannaq will receive three temporary generators at the harbor to ensure a stable power supply for the entire town until a new power plant is completed. The location has now been approved following a collaboration between Avannaata Kommunia, Naalakkersuisut, and Nukissiorfiit.
The residents of Uummannaq must be guaranteed a stable electricity supply in the coming years. Therefore, it has been decided to install three temporary generators at the town’s harbor.
The Municipality of Avannaata reports that the location of the generators has been approved in collaboration with Naalakkersuisut and Nukissiorfiit.
The three generators are intended to serve as a temporary solution and ensure a power supply for the entire town of Uummannaq until the town’s new power plant is completed.
Special approval from Naalakkersuisut
To enable the installation of the generators, Naalakkersuisut has approved the location through a national planning directive.
A national planning directive allows, in certain cases, for construction to proceed without a prior local plan.
This has laid the planning groundwork for installing the temporary generators at the harbor.
Must ensure the electricity supply through 2028
The temporary solution is intended to ensure that Uummannaq continues to have electricity while work continues toward the construction of the new power plant.
According to Avannaata Kommunia, the generators are intended to ensure the town’s electricity supply through 2028.
