When sheep are slaughtered, their ear tags are removed and reused. Before they are sent back to the sheep farms, they must be cleaned—and students from Sulisartut Højskoliat have helped with this.
“Since there were so many labels that needed to be cleaned and sorted, the work was carried out systematically to keep track of everything,” explains teacher Bonna Motzfeldt.
– The work took place in the basement of Sulisartut Højskoliat because the smell was quite strong. Some of the students covered their noses with paper towels while they worked. Some students sorted the tags and cleaned them, while others removed remnants of skin. They really enjoyed themselves while working—in fact, some became so interested that they wanted to do an internship at sheep farms, says Bonna Motzfeldt.
Of the 17 students, eight did internships at sheep farms, and they had an unforgettable experience. One of the students even landed a job at a sheep farm during the busy season.
Small projects like this can have a big impact, because collaboration often leads to positive experiences and growth in many different ways.
The students from Sulisartut Højskoliat have now completed their program and returned home—and we would like to thank them for their hard work and excellent cooperation.
