Director of Operations, Environment, Fisheries, and Business A key director position in the Municipality of Qeqertalik

Would you like to lead the operations and environmental efforts in the Municipality of Qeqertalik?

We are seeking a Department Head for Operations, Environment, Fisheries, and Business for a key leadership position reporting to the Director of Engineering and Environment—Inoqarfik. The position covers the municipality’s 4 towns and 8 villages. You will be responsible for ensuring stable operations, maintenance, environmental tasks, and services in the towns and villages, and must ensure clear prioritization, high professional standards, and operations that function smoothly on a day-to-day basis.

Head
of Department Role: Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and works closely with political leadership.
Management
Responsibilities: Managing employees and coordinating professional activities across the municipality.
Field
of expertise: Operations, maintenance, waste management, the environment, sanitation, and municipal services.
Geography
: Responsibilities spanning the municipality’s four towns and eight villages.

You’ll be responsible for that

·Management and development of the operations and environmental division, with responsibility for planning, prioritization, finances, and professional quality

·Operation and maintenance of roads, trails, public squares, port areas, outdoor areas adjacent to buildings, playgrounds, cemeteries, and technical facilities

·Waste management, recycling centers, garbage collection, snow removal, de-icing, and general municipal services in cities and towns

·environmental inspections and environmental tasks, including local pollution management, oversight of landfills, and support for nature and environmental projects

·Collaborate with local fishermen and business stakeholders regarding fishing grounds, etc.

·Regulatory and development tasks related to business areas, etc.

·Providing policy support through well-researched briefs, presentations, budget proposals, and systematic follow-up

We imagine that you

·has relevant professional and managerial experience in operations, engineering, the environment, utilities, construction, or a related field

·has experience planning and prioritizing operations and maintenance, preferably from a politically governed organization

·Can translate policy goals and local needs into practical solutions and ensure stable day-to-day operations

·has a good understanding of finance and can monitor budgets, contracts, deliveries, and regulatory requirements

·works in a structured manner and has an eye for both the big picture and local realities across cities and towns

·It is an advantage if you can communicate in Greenlandic and Danish, and preferably also in English

Practical
Information: The position reports to the Director of Administration for Technology and Environment—Inoqarfik.
The work location is Aasiaat, but the responsibilities cover the entire municipality.
Travel within the municipality is to be expected as needed.
Salary classification is as Head of Department 3, in accordance with the management agreement between the Self-Government and the municipalities.

Criminal Record:

This position is subject to the law requiring a criminal background check. Under this law, employment cannot begin until the municipality has received a criminal background check. We must therefore point out that the start date cannot be agreed upon until the municipality has received the criminal record check from the police.

Housing:

Staff housing may be provided for this position; a security deposit, rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time regarding rent payments for properties owned by the Government of Greenland and municipalities in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon starting employment, employees entitled to vacant housing will be offered temporary vacant housing, for which A-tax on non-cash benefits will be paid in accordance with applicable law. 

An employee residence must be vacated upon termination of employment.
