We are looking for a Social and Health Care Assistant for an exciting position in the inpatient ward at the Maniitsoq Health Center.

The position may also be filled on a temporary basis for a period of 3–5 months. 

The position is based in the Health Center’s inpatient unit. Your primary responsibility will be to plan and provide care and monitoring for hospitalized patients of all ages with general medical and surgical conditions, under the supervision of the ward manager and in collaboration with your colleagues. 
You may also encounter patients with psychiatric disorders who require stabilization during hospitalization, as well as patients receiving palliative care. The department serves as an emergency room and provides on-call medical services during the evening and night hours. 
The work is at times very independent, so you must be responsible, conscientious, self-directed, and always seek guidance when in doubt.

The inpatient ward is part of a well-run health center that offers physician consultations, an emergency and triage unit, X-ray services, a laboratory, and physical therapy, In addition, the Health Center also provides prenatal care, home nursing services (both somatic and psychiatric), public health services, venereal disease clinics, and lifestyle clinics, among other services.  

The workweek is 40 hours, divided into two shifts: day and evening. Night shifts may also be required.

  • Has clinical experience in nursing, preferably in multiple specialties
  • Has passed the pharmacology module and is able to administer medication
  • Is meticulous and attentive within their area of expertise

  • Can keep track of everything and juggle multiple tasks at once.

A little about Maniitsoq:

The town is located on Greenland’s west coast, just south of the Arctic Circle, between Nuuk to the south and Sisimiut to the north. The Maniitsoq area is very beautiful, surrounded by high, jagged mountains with glaciers that stretch down to deep fjords. There are approximately 3,100 residents in the district, with about 2,500 living in the town and the rest in the district’s three settlements. The settlements are visited several times a year, and transportation is by boat. The town offers most modern amenities, including grocery stores, a domestic airport, weekly connections via the coastal ferry, and, during the summer months, a high-speed boat route to Nuuk. 
Summer recreational activities include hiking in the mountains, fishing, cabin trips, and sailing among the humpback whales, which are a defining feature of our district. During the winter months, the Northern Lights dance across the evening and night skies, and during the day, visitors can enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing in one of Greenland’s best ski areas. In addition, Maniitsoq has an evening school offering many exciting activities, and year-round opportunities for various sports are available at the town’s sports hall.

Salary and Employment

Wages and terms of employment, including the right to travel upon starting or leaving a position and to relocation of household goods, in accordance with the agreement or collective bargaining agreement in effect at the time of employment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant bargaining organization.

Candidates who possess additional qualifications beyond those specified above, such as relevant diploma or master’s degrees, may be eligible for additional compensation in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement and the company’s guidelines.
