MISI-Avannaa is responsible for educational and psychological counseling services in Avannaata Municipality, the world’s northernmost municipality. We are based in Ilulissat on the Disko Bay and the world-famous ice fjord.

MISI Avannaa is responsible for tasks related to both schools and daycare centers throughout the municipality of Avannaata, which is divided into 4 towns and 21 villages.

Ilulissat offers magnificent natural scenery with a wealth of opportunities for hiking, boating, dog sledding, skiing, hunting, fishing, and more, while also being a modern town with a variety of cultural and recreational activities.

In addition, the job involves business travel by ship, plane, and helicopter to towns and villages throughout the municipality.

We are looking for a psychologist—preferably a licensed one—with several years of experience working with children with special needs. The right candidate will find it exciting to work in a system based on the Greenlandic language and culture, and:

  • has knowledge of recent research and educational-psychological theories
  • has several years of experience working with children with special needs
  • is dynamic and focused on development
  • has experience in educational psychology work with children and adolescents
  • is resilient and able to work independently and flexibly on a wide variety of tasks

Hiring is governed by the collective bargaining agreement dated June 28, 2019, between Naalakkersuisut and Ilinniartitsisut Meeqqat Atuarfianneersut Kattuffiat (IMAK) for elementary school teachers in Greenland, among others. 

For applicants who are already civil servants, this form of employment may be continued. 

Staff housing is provided, for which rent, a security deposit, etc., are paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time.

The position is to be filled on October 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.
