Then the Operations Manager position in Ilulissat might be just the right fit for you!

Avannaata Municipality is seeking an Operations Manager for its Operations Department in Ilulissat. We are looking for a strong candidate with knowledge of mechanics and general management, as well as an interest in the town’s development. 

This is a permanent position responsible for ensuring the operation of roads, cemeteries, cranes, waste management, and more in Ilulissat and its four settlements: Ilimanaq, Oqaatsut, Qeqertaq, and Saqqaq.

You will be based in Ilulissat, where you will have excellent opportunities to lead and motivate the operations staff. You will supervise 1 operations manager assistant, two foremen, and approximately 50 employees in the contracting department, including sanitation workers, incineration plant staff, reception station and landfill staff, as well as dog vaccination technicians. 

Within the department’s areas of responsibility, you will work on
:·Providing excellent citizen service, i.e., investigating, understanding, and handling customer inquiries or referring them to the appropriate authority.
·Ensuring responsible operations and service delivery within the technical area, carried out as decided by the
municipal council·Ensuring that well-considered applications for capital projects are submitted annually to the Capital Projects Department, addressing the construction and infrastructure needs in Ilulissat and surrounding settlements.
·Ensure effective budgeting by following the budget action plan and preparing monthly reports for the department head.
·Ensure the continued development and professional growth of staff in the operations and utilities sector.
·Work together with the staff in Ilulissat to ensure that Ilulissat becomes part of the shared structures of Avannaata Kommunia.
·Ensure that staff in operations and utilities have the same goals and tools for carrying out their daily tasks.

In other words, you will help achieve political goals, including implementing new initiatives, delegating day-to-day tasks, and training and motivating employees.

Skills·Has
a background in a trade, such as mechanic, machinist, carpenter, electrician, or similar·
The ability to motivate and inspire those around
you·Strong language skills in both Greenlandic and
Danish·Interest in working in a politically led
organization·Strong teamwork
skills·Understanding of the importance of treating citizens with respect
and on an equal footing·Must have at least a Class B driver’s license; a commercial driver’s license is a

Salary and Terms of Employment:
Salary and terms of employment shall be in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement in effect between Naalakkersuisut and the authorized bargaining organization at the time of employment.
