Would you like to help the municipality fulfill its responsibility to assist citizens in need? The Municipality of Qeqertalik, Qeqertarsuaq, Department of Social Affairs is seeking a social worker to begin employment on June 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.

You will be part of a team of administrative staff and will report to the department head. The position involves a wide range of tasks to be carried out in collaboration with colleagues, and participation in the on-call roster is expected. The primary responsibility is case management related to public assistance. Please clearly indicate in your application which position you are applying for.

Areas of work and responsibilities:

  • Processing of various applications submitted by residents to the administration.
  • Conducting financial reviews and ensuring that decisions are made in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Assessment of the citizen’s financial situation in relation to relevant areas of legislation.
  • Financial counseling for residents.
  • Developing action plans in close collaboration with the individual.
  • Handling of urgent requests for assistance.
  • Participation in and shared responsibility for other administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Training as a social worker, counseling assistant, or HK (with courses in social welfare law), or as a social services assistant (with courses in social welfare law), or a willingness to take such courses. Alternatively, experience with similar tasks in public administration.
  • Experience with financial case management in social services.
  • Ability to prioritize, be reliable, committed, and responsible, and serve as a role model.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with the public.
  • Resilience and mental strength.

Salary and terms of employment: Employment is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement between Naalakkersuisut and the relevant trade union.

Criminal record:

This position is subject to the law requiring a criminal background check. Under this law, employment cannot begin until the municipality has received a criminal background check. We must therefore point out that the start date cannot be agreed upon until the municipality has received the criminal background check from the police.

Housing:

Staff housing may be provided for this position; a security deposit, rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time regarding rent payments for properties owned by the Government of Greenland and the municipality, etc., in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon employment, employees entitled to vacant housing will be offered temporary vacant housing, for which A-tax on fringe benefits will be paid in accordance with applicable law.

OR The start date depends on when staff housing becomes available. Travel expenses for the move and household goods relocation will be covered in accordance with current regulations.

Staff housing must be vacated upon termination of employment.
