The Municipality of Avannaata in Ilulissat is seeking a janitor to start on June 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed. The position is based at the Central Administration in Ilulissat.
About the position
The Ilulissat area has a total of 10 daycare centers, located in various parts of the town. The custodian is responsible for maintenance and practical tasks at the centers. The position helps ensure a safe, secure, and pleasant environment for children and staff. The custodian reports directly to the director of daycare services.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Maintenance of buildings and outdoor areas (snow removal, minor repairs, etc.)
- Inspection of technical systems (heating, water, ventilation, etc.)
- Purchasing and contacting contractors for major repairs
- Monitoring playground safety and equipment
- Waste management and sorting
- Ad hoc tasks as requested by management and staff
- Small-scale moving jobs and furniture assembly
Skills:
- Has relevant training in a trade or has extensive experience as a tradesperson
- Has experience with manual labor
·Has a driver’s license
- Is dedicated to the task
- Flexible and independent
- Good at working with others
- Experience in janitorial work or building maintenance is a plus
- Knowledge of Greenlandic weather conditions and materials (if applicable)
Salary and terms of employment:
Salary and employment conditions are governed by the collective bargaining agreement in effect at any given time between Naalakkersuisut and the authorized trade union.
Housing is not provided with this position.
Employment is contingent upon the submission of a satisfactory criminal record check and a child protection clearance. These checks are obtained by the hiring authority with the employee’s written consent and are requested from the National Police.
