The Isfjord Office is seeking a dedicated and independent communications specialist for a full-time position. 

This position offers the opportunity to work on promoting the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ilulissat Icefjord and to help foster an understanding of the area’s unique natural and cultural values among residents, schools, and visitors alike.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Manage communications for the Isfjord Office and serve as the office’s public face
  • Maintain and develop the Isfjord Office's website and social media
  • Maintain contact with researchers and gather findings from ongoing research projects for the purpose of communicating them to the public
  • Develop news articles, informational materials, and other communication content
  • Manage the Isfjord Office’s school services in close collaboration with schools and educational institutions in Ilulissat
  • Develop educational and informational materials for the school outreach program
  • Visit schools and provide information about the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the work of the Isfjord Office, and the importance of protecting the area
  • Help strengthen children’s and young people’s knowledge of and sense of ownership of the World Heritage site
  • Give lectures and hold informational meetings for tourists about the Ilulissat Icefjord, the UNESCO initiative, and the current condition of the glacier and the fjord
  • Maintain ongoing contact with tourism stakeholders, guides, and other partners in the tourism industry
  • Help raise awareness of the UNESCO World Heritage Site among guides, tour operators, and other educators in the area
  • Develop informational materials and hold informational meetings for tour guides and tourism stakeholders about the World Heritage Site, applicable regulations, and current conditions at Isfjorden
  • Help ensure that the World Heritage Site is presented in a consistent and accurate manner to visitors to the area

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in communication, outreach, or teaching
  • Is skilled at writing and explaining complex topics to different audiences
  • Is interested in nature, cultural heritage, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites
  • Is self-reliant, organized, and proactive
  • Thrives in both office work and communicating directly with people
  • Is flexible and willing to take on tasks outside the Isfjord Office’s core area of responsibility, including communication and outreach tasks for other departments within Avannaata Kommunia
  • Is fluent in Greenlandic, Danish, and English, both written and spoken

Salary and Terms of Employment:

This is a full-time position at the Isfjord Office in Ilulissat.

Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Housing is not provided in connection with this position.

About Us:

The Icefjord Office is part of Avannaata Kommunia and serves as the World Heritage Office for the Ilulissat Icefjord. The office is involved in the management, monitoring, research, information, and outreach related to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Icefjord Office is not part of the Icefjord Center.
