Uummannaq – A Life Close to Nature

Uummannaq isn’t just a place to work—it’s also a place to live.

The town is located on a small island nearly 600 km north of the Arctic Circle and is surrounded by a magnificent Arctic landscape. The distinctive Uummannaq mountain, the fjord, and the enormous icebergs set the scene for everyday life.

If you love nature and the outdoors, there are plenty of options. In the summer, you can explore the area from the water by boat, and there are also opportunities for hiking, fishing, and other activities in the fjord. In the winter, the fjord becomes part of the city’s transportation network, and dog sledding and snowmobiling are among the ways to get around and explore the landscape.

Uummannaq also offers a strong local community and a vibrant Greenlandic culture. The town’s church and the distinctive mountain are among its well-known landmarks.

A Different Kind of Everyday Life

Moving to Uummannaq is an opportunity for anyone who wants to try their hand at a different kind of everyday life.

Here, the distance between your workplace, nature, and the local community is shorter. You’ll have the opportunity to experience Greenland up close and become part of a local community far from the major cities.

For those coming from outside the area, working and living in Uummannaq can be both a professional and a personal experience.

You’ll have the opportunity to

  • Experience a different kind of teaching day with close contact with students
  • grow professionally and personally
  • work with multiple subjects and different grade levels
  • become part of a local school and community
  • experience Greenland's nature up close
  • spend their free time on activities such as hiking, fishing, sailing, and other outdoor activities
  • experience the vastly different rhythms of the seasons in Northern Greenland

We’re looking for someone who’s interested in Greenland

Perhaps you already have experience teaching at a school in Greenland. Perhaps you’ve worked as a teacher in Denmark and dream of trying your hand at teaching in Greenland.

The most important thing is that you enjoy working with the students, teaching, and being part of the community—and that you’re eager to become part of everyday life in Uummannaq.

If you dream of a teaching job where you can both make a difference and have the experience of a lifetime, we’d love to hear from you.
