Majoriaq Aasiaat is seeking a teacher to begin employment on June 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.
As an instructor or teacher at Majoriaq, your role is to motivate young people and adults to prepare for further education or to find a job. You must have an educational background that qualifies you to teach at least two of the general subjects:
- Greenlandic
- Danish
- Social Studies
Majoriaq is not an extension of elementary school, but rather a modular educational program for young people and adults. You should be interested in working with project-based learning so that Majoriaq students find the instruction meaningful and engaging.
The planning of courses and instruction takes place in close collaboration with advisors and the school’s other teachers, which requires that you be skilled at:
- to collaborate
- to think outside the box and be full of ideas
- that you are understanding of people with special needs
- Experience with children and adults; guidance
- Experience with elementary school graduation and evaluation
We expect you to:
- Has a college degree or other academic qualification.
- You must have completed courses in Greenlandic and mathematics for upper secondary education.
- Has strong language skills, both spoken and written.
- Has a good reputation and experience in a similar position.
- Are you a go-getter who wants to make a difference in the school’s development?
- Can use IT tools at the user level.
- Can provide a clean criminal record
Salary and employment terms:
The terms of pay and employment are governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreements between your bargaining organization and the Government of Greenland.
Housing:
Staff housing may be provided for this position; a security deposit, rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the rules in effect at any given time regarding rent payments for properties owned by the Government of Greenland and the municipality, etc., in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon starting employment, employees entitled to vacant housing will be offered temporary vacant housing, for which A-tax on non-monetary benefits will be paid in accordance with applicable law.
OR The start date depends on when staff housing becomes available. Travel expenses for the move and household goods relocation will be covered in accordance with applicable regulations.
Staff housing must be vacated upon termination of employment.
Criminal record and child protection clearance:
This position is subject to the law requiring criminal and child protection background checks. Under the law, employment cannot begin until the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child protection background checks. We must therefore note that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received a child protection certificate from the National Police and a criminal record check from the Police.
The Child Protection Certificate is obtained by the municipality with the individual’s consent, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.
