Avannaata Municipality is seeking two dedicated and qualified consultants for the Accounting Department in Ilulissat, to begin on November 1, 2026, or as otherwise agreed.

The Accounting Department is a central part of the Finance Department of Avannaata Municipality and plays an important role in the municipality’s financial administration and operations.

As a consultant, you’ll be part of an exciting and dynamic workplace with varied responsibilities. The position requires that you be able to work in a structured and independent manner, handle tasks and cases with tight deadlines, and maintain a clear overview amid a busy workday. The position is responsible for ensuring the proper processing of the municipality’s incoming and outgoing payments, up-to-date bank authorizations, and a reliable data foundation for accounting, cash management, and management reporting.

The consultant reports to the chief accountant in the Accounting Department.

Job Description

In addition, the following job responsibilities apply:

·Perform or verify daily and monthly reconciliations between bank statements and the municipality’s financial system.

·Investigate and follow up on discrepancies, unidentified payments, rejected payments, bank fees, and old open bank entries.

·Ensure documentation, traceability, and management approval of the reconciliations.

·Ensure the quality of payment runs for vendors, payroll, taxes, pensions, subsidies, and other municipal obligations.

·Follow up on returned, declined, or erroneous payments and ensure that they are properly reversed or refunded.

·Prepare an ongoing overview of the funds available in the municipality’s bank accounts.

·Coordinate the need for transfers between the municipality’s accounts in accordance with applicable approval rules.

·Reconcile recorded cash balances with bank records at the end of each period and at year-end, as well as during interim reconciliations.

·Maintain a controlled overview of banking authorizations, payment rights, users, roles, and spending limits.

·Coordinate the creation, modification, and closure of bank access accounts upon hiring, job changes, or resignation.

·Conduct periodic reviews of user permissions and document management approval.

·Contribute to the evaluation and administration of banking products in collaboration with management and relevant professionals.

·Coordinate documentation when opening or closing accounts and ensure that agreements are properly filed.

·Follow up on audit observations and develop action plans for the banking sector.

·Advise municipal employees on payment processes, banking documentation, and the secure handling of financial information.

We expect you to be:

Professional Competencies

·Relevant higher education in accounting, economics, finance, or public administration, such as a Financial Controller degree, a degree in financial economics, a bachelor’s degree in finance, an academy program in economics and resource management, an HD degree, or the equivalent.

·Alternatively, relevant office training combined with solid and documented experience in banking, bookkeeping, or municipal accounting.

·Experience with bank reconciliation, payment files, liquidity reports, balance sheet accounts, and period-end closing.

·A good understanding of debits and credits, payment processes, segregation of duties, and powers of attorney.

·Knowledge of public finance, auditing, information security, and payment fraud prevention is a plus.

·Strong Excel skills and experience with financial systems and electronic banking solutions.

· Salary and terms of employment are determined in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement in effect at the time of hire between Naalakkersuisut and the organization authorized to negotiate.
