In connection with the opening and the start of the school year on Monday, August 17, 2026, for Nuuk’s new large public school, Atuarfik Inussuk, the traffic plan for the area has now been released. Since the school is centrally located in the city near Aqqusinersuaq, the plan is crucial for ensuring safety in everyday life. The goal is to ensure that the many children and adults can travel safely to and from school.
A Joint Effort for Safety
For the plan to work as well as possible, we need everyone’s help. As a driver in the area, we encourage you to slow down and be extra mindful of students moving around the school. As a parent or guardian, we encourage you to remind your children to use crosswalks and sidewalks, and to review the new traffic plan together before the first day of school. It’s also important to know the rules regarding where and for how long you can park when dropping off and picking up students.
School Patrol at the Start of the School Year
Starting on the first day of school, the school crossing guards will be standing by in bright orange/yellow vests at the crosswalks between HHE and the school and between Blocks 4 and 5 to help the children cross the street safely. Remember to give them a friendly “good morning” and be extra careful in traffic.
New bus stop near the school
There are bus stops around the school, and the good news is that a new bus stop has been set up at the school to make commuting easier. You can check the schedules and route map on the Nuup Bussii website: bus.gl

You can view a map of the school with information about entrances, traffic flow, crosswalks, staff, delivery/transportation of goods, parking spaces, bus stops, and the numbers in the traffic plan.
Please note: There are various parking spots around the school. The parking area in front of AKO, marked in orange, is called Kiss and Ride. Traffic in this area flows one way from Kongevej toward Aqqusinersuaq, and you may only stop briefly: Stop briefly, drop off your child, stay in the car, and drive on.
