Nuuk’s first 9-hole disc golf course at Nuffiumaneq is now open to all residents. The course is free and open to the public and has been established as a new activity for children, youth, and adults who want to be active in nature. Users must bring their own disc (Frisbee).
Disc golf is a sport similar to regular golf, but in which you throw a disc (Frisbee) toward a basket. It is a sport that combines physical activity, precision, and strategy. The goal is to complete the course with as few throws as possible.
The creation of the disc golf course aligns well with the municipality’s goal of providing more free and easily accessible opportunities for exercise and outdoor recreation:
“Bring your own Frisbee and come out and try the course today. The course is easily accessible, and we hope it will become a new gathering place for laughter, competition, and strong communities across generations in beautiful surroundings. Both beginners and experienced players can join in and have a great time. Remember to be considerate of other users in the area. We look forward to seeing the course put to use,” says Jonas Lundsgaard Nilsson, department head for Kultur-Nuuk, Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq.
The project is financially supported by the Nuuk Local Committee. It was developed in collaboration with the Icelandic Disc Golf Association, which has extensive experience and has provided advice on the course’s design and location.
Rules of the Game:
Disc golf is played just like regular golf, except with a Frisbee instead of a golf ball. The goal is to get the disc into the basket in as few throws as possible.
There are 9 holes on the course. There are two tees on each hole:
- a common starting point
- a shorter starting point for children and beginners
How to Play:
- Start from the marked starting point
- The player who is farthest from the basket always shoots first.
- Always throw from the spot where your disc landed
- The game is over when the disc is resting in the basket or hanging from the chains
Please be considerate: We encourage all users to make sure the area in front of them is clear before throwing, to be considerate of other users, and to show special respect for the cemetery and any funerals taking place there. If a funeral or other religious service is taking place, the game should be paused or postponed.
Note: Later this year, we will also install tee pads with artificial turf and a bench, a map of the course at the starting area, signs showing the course layout and rules, and markings for children’s starting points.
The area has been approved for this purpose. The location was chosen with consideration for the existing trails and cross-country ski trails, and this was done in consultation with Sisorarfiit and other ski clubs.
There will be an opening event in the coming months.
