The medal was presented by Barnabas Larsen, chairman of the village council, at a ceremony in Kateriffik Kangaamiut.
During his speech to Louisannguaq, the chairman of the village council said, among other things:
“I am pleased to present the Silver Medal of Merit of His Royal Highness King Frederik and Her Royal Highness Queen Mary to someone who has made an extremely significant contribution over the past 40 years. It is fitting to present you with this Medal of Merit. Forty years of one’s life is a long time, and I have no doubt that you have former colleagues and former clients who have passed away in your thoughts. With all of them in mind, we wish to convey our gratitude on behalf of all our fellow citizens.
We appreciate your hard work; despite sometimes facing difficult challenges, you have remained loyal and maintained a positive attitude toward your tasks, and I hope you will continue your excellent work for many years to come.
“In recent years, you have also served as the community coordinator following the municipal merger, and you have always provided excellent service.”
The King’s Medal of Merit is the oldest existing medal of honor in the Kingdom and was established as early as 1792 to recognize faithful service.
